Dr. Elizabeth Matteson Jones

Dr. Elizabeth Matteson Jones, a northern Virginia native, is thrilled to practice orthodontics in her hometown. Her lifelong passion for orthodontics sparked during her own confidence-boosting journey as a young woman getting braces and an implant for a missing tooth. During high school, Dr. Jones worked alongside her orthodontist learning to change wires and colors. She knew then orthodontics was the career for her!

At the College of William & Mary, Dr. Jones majored in biology and minored in art and art history. Dr. Jones was the head mentor for pre-dental students and a member of Orchesis Modern Dance Company and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She spent an entire year sculpting and casting teeth in preparation for dental school.

Education

Dr. Jones earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery at VCU in Richmond, where she was a regular on the dean’s list. Honors included the National Scholastic Achievement Award from Psi Omega Fraternity and the William C. Brokaw Award for bringing access to dental care in Jamaica. She regularly volunteered for Missions of Mercy, taking dentistry to underserved areas in Virginia.

Dr. Jones obtained her Masters of Science and Certificate in Orthodontics at Ohio State University. There she gained extensive experience with clear aligners, braces, treatment of cleft lip and palate, and surgical orthodontics. Dr. Jones presented her thesis on CBCT specificity and sensitivity at the International Association of Dental Research meeting in Boston.

Dr. Jones achieved board certification in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics through a rigorous 2-year process. Only one in three orthodontists chooses to undergo board certification. Dr. Jones believes this important milestone demonstrates her dedication to providing the highest level of orthodontics and keeping up on the latest research and technology.

Dr. Jones is an active member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Northern Virginia Dental Society, and the American Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Jones met her husband, Richard, at VCU. They love spending time with their two children and their Shih-Tzu rescue, Josie. When not transforming miles, Dr. Jones loves to swim, read, and play piano.
